Feedback is key

I think I might have asked for feedback a little too early. Knowing how many mistakes were in the manuscript now, it must have been a tough read for the kind volunteers who picked it up. But I was desperate for an opinion. Was what I had written any good or just a load of rubbish?
I was pleasantly surprised. I got some constructive criticism, to be fair, but I took it all on board. My author friend gave me the best advice I think I received. He admitted it was not his usual genre but thought I had something marketable. However, it needed a damn good edit. He offered to assist. Having had his own novel dissected by a professional, he felt he could give me some sound advice. I gracefully accepted, and to his credit, he read the book seven times!
