Determined to write my first novel, I had to consider how to go about it. The prospect of taking my laptop everywhere didn’t appeal at first. My daughter then suggested Google Docs. Armed with my phone, the document would be literally available to me everywhere I went.

So it started. I wrote the entire first draft of Realms Beyond on my phone. Over 100,000 words typed with two thumbs on a keyboard two inches wide.

Needless to say, when I finally opened it in Word, I discovered over 1,200 spelling mistakes, including words where autocorrect had selected the wrong option and words that were completely missing. It took me months to correct it and make it into a readable shape.
