Over the line

Wow. What a last few days. I can't believe it all came together. I've spent the run up to release engaged in a number of tasks.
Firstly I was tracking down independent book shops in the local area (more on this later). Secondly I was researching bloggers and book critics (again more on this later). Thirdly I spent a good amount of time dwelling on price.
I have blogged before about the difficulties setting price. I didn't want to overprice the book. I have a figure in my head that I would pay for a book. I began to wonder if that thought was ten years out of date. I really struggled with this. Finally I made the decision. I know I'm not likely to sell a lot of books. Not unless a miracle occurs, so I might as well go as cheap as possible. It seems pointless setting a price to try and make as little as £1 per book when I'm thinking if I sell fifty I'll have done well. So I decided to change the price.
On Ingram Spark this is a piece of cake. On KDP however you can't change anything in the last week before release.
So, I waited until midnight on the 3rd. Patiently refreshing KDP. Midnight came and went and my book was still sat in a pending state. I can only think the release date is time zone related. I went to bed annoyed.
First thing in the morning, I checked again. Released!! Yay!!. I was able to update the price and then I waited. Luckily the update only took a few hours and I was able to then spread the news that the book was available.
It was a mix of relief and excitement. My book was live.
All I need now are readers.
